Man held for raping mentally ill girl

The Raghunathpalli police in Rourkela arrested a married man on Sunday for allegedly raping a mentally challenged girl near the government Industrial Training Institute (ITI).

 

On Saturday, the girl was alone at home; and taking advantage of it, the accused identified as Srikant Barik, lured the girl and took her to a lavatory near the ITI and raped her there. The victim after reaching home narrated her ordeal to her mother.

 

The girl's mother lodged an FIR at the Raghunathpalli police station and police after registering a case, detained the youth.  They sent the girl for medical examination to a hospital.

 

Police along with a scientific team reached the spot and conducted an inquiry and arrested the accused.
